A television antenna is one of those jobs that looks simple from the ground and is anything but on a Bunbury roof. Get the antenna type, the aim or the weatherproofing wrong and you live with pixelation and dropouts for years. Bunbury’s free-to-air signal is delivered mainly from the Mount Lennard transmitter. Across most of the CBD, East Bunbury and South Bunbury the path is strong, and a good digital Yagi or phased-array antenna gives a clean, full-strength picture. We fit marine-grade antennas with stainless-steel fixings, seal every external connection with gel-filled, weatherproof F-connectors, and run quad-shield RG6 coax rated for the WA UV load rather than the builder-grade RG59 that quietly loses signal over a long roof run. Connections are earthed to AS 1417, the lead-in is clipped neatly, and the wall plate is left tidy.

Worked example: a Dalyellup double-storey.

A typical recent job: a two-storey home in a beachside Dalyellup estate, original builder’s antenna corroded after four years of salt exposure, picture dropping out on the ABC and SBS multiplexes. We supplied and installed a marine-grade phased-array antenna, a small masthead amplifier to lift the weaker UHF channels, fully weatherproofed lead-in, and retuned three televisions. Total: $620 including parts, labour and the height access. A single-storey equivalent in Eaton with no amplifier needed would have been closer to $360.
